What People Are Saying
“My daughter started working with Carrie almost 18 months ago. I had noticed a continued slide in english and got very little help from her school. I was looking for an expert in reading and the OG method. There were very few available. I spoke to another highly rated tutor and she did not have availability. However she recommended Carrie to me. This was a sincere and heartfelt recommendation. This tutor spoke very highly of Carrie. My teenage daughter was not very excited about extra school work. Her attitude toward school was starting to change for the worse as she was struggling more and more with reading. After a few sessions with Carrie, my daughter really developed a bond with her. The time was a benefit for more than just reading; it was clear that my daughter's confidence was increasing. Carrie never made her feel bad about her reading difficulties. My daughter never ONCE gave me attitude about the sessions. She truly enjoyed her time with Carrie. It is sometimes hard to know if a long term intervention is actually effective. However I got some tangible proof that this method was working. My daughter's percentile rank was 26% when we started with Carrie and a little over a year later it was 67%. I know these tests are not everything, but it was an apples to apples comparison in my book. The only thing that was different was the consistent work with Carrie. This almost made me cry. I was so worried that my bright daughter was going to struggle in school and continue to fall behind and now I had hope. We have recently stopped her tutoring mostly because of scheduling conflicts. She has made a lot of progress. My daughter and I really did not want to stop meeting with Carrie. She is truly one of those special people that I think my daughter will remember as a mentor and friend forever. My daughter and I are very grateful for the knowledge and skills that Carrie provided.”

“After years of significant struggles in reading comprehension, writing, and spelling, we consulted Carrie for help for our teenager! Graciously, she gave assessments and recommendations, and after 18 months of tutoring, we experienced very notable and significant improvement in our teenager's ability to write, spell, and understand what he is reading. Additionally, Carrie's focus on teaching executive functioning skills gave fresh order and calmness to our family's schedule and daily rhythms as our teenager began to prioritize daily chores and map out schedules weeks and months in advance! We cannot say enough to Carrie's fabulous work and the Orton-Gillingham teaching method she uses. Not only is she flexible with on-line or in-person sessions, she also understands scheduling conflicts and kindly allows the family to self-pace without undo pressure or obligation. Allow Carrie to asses your child and if it is a good fit, we know you will not regret the investment she will make in your family's life!”

“My son is on the Autism Spectrum. He greatly struggles with executive functioning skills. I saw that Ms. Henry was a tutor, and contacted her through Facebook. She was able to evaluate my son and worked with him twice a week (online) for several months. He has made a lot of progress! He learned how to use his phone calendar to schedule activities and class projects. Using different critical thinking skills games and activities, Ms. Henry helped him think outside the box more. She gave me ideas of things to work with him at home. She had a lot patience to work with my son, because at first he didn't want to cooperate, but as he worked with her, he started looking forward to his sessions. She did her best to make the sessions enjoyable as well as productive. If you are considering using a virtual or in person tutor for your child, please consider Ms. Henry.”

“We have had the pleasure of our son working with Carrie since fall of 2019 when he was starting 5th grade. Carrie has been able to offer tailored interventions to our son's reading/spelling issues over this time. She has also been able to integrate executive functioning strategies to help him as well. Her work, in combination with some interventions at his school, have allowed him to move into grade level reading work. Additionally, with Carrie’s support over the summer break our son was able to sustain his progress into the next school year (he is now a 7th grader). Carrie has been great to work with as she is flexible, open to questions, and she can provide detailed explanations and understanding of a child's reading (and related skills) needs. Her thoughtful and compassionate approach has also allowed our son to see his potential for growth and change through challenges, which is a valuable experience.”

“My son struggled for 3 years to learn to read. It was a source of frustration for him and for me, his teacher. I’m just a few months of working with Carrie - my son’s gaining confidence, looking forward to learning, and picking up books to read to me with his new found skills! I am so pleased with his progress! He really looks forward to his sessions with her!”
